When starting a game, am I forced to move a Pawn or can I move another piece other than the Pawn in my first move?

Can I move first a Knight or a Rook?

Dear viewer,

At the beginning of a game you are able to move only two different kind of pieces: any Pawn or any Knight. There is no way of moving any other piece on your first move since they are blocked by themselves.

It is a good practice to start a game by moving any of the two center Pawns because these moves aim to control the center of the board and Bishops become active.
