hi,
Is still Viswanathan Anand
the world champion? Why
hasn't been a world
championship lately?
Thx.

Dear
viewer,
GM Viswanathan Anand from India is the current
undisputed world champion and
has held the title for two years. Anand won the 2007 World Chess
Championship in an eight-player tournament, and he successfully
defended the title in the World Chess Championship 2008 against
former champion Vladimir Kramnik.
There is no info why we haven't seen
a world Chess Championship in the past two years. The next
championship will take place in Sofia, Bulgaria from April 23 to May 12, 2010, with a prize fund of 2 million
Euros. Viswanathan Anand, will be challenged for the title by
Veselin Topalov.
This will be a twelve games match with
tie-breaks, same length as the 2006 and 2008 world championship
matches. The time control for each game shall be: 120 minutes
for the first 40 moves, 60 minutes for the next 20 moves and
then 15 minutes for the rest of the game with an increment of 30
seconds per move starting after move 61 has been made.
