In the Pirc Defense Opening, black plays a very early “g6”, allowing white to dominate the center.  When black player replies to 1.e4 with a move other than 1. ... e5, is called a Semi - Open Game.  Pirc Defense leads to umbalanced positions and tends toward less games drawn than the Open Games.
