Viswanathan Anand wins the World Championship in Mexico City  and becomes the undisputed World Chess Champion. He finishes undefeated with 9.0 points out of 14 games. Kramnik takes second place.

World Chess Champion 2008 *

Anand convincingly defended the title against Kramnik in the World Chess Championship 2008 held between 14-29 of October in Bonn, Germany. The winner was to be the first to score 6½ points in the twelve-game match. Viswanathan Anand won by scoring 6½ points in eleven games.

World Chess Champion 2010 *

Anand defended the title against Veselin Topalov from April 24 to May 13, 2010 in Sofia, Bulgaria. The match was to be 12 games, with tie-breaks if necessary, with the same format and length as the 2006 and 2008 matches. In a dramatic finish, Anand won the match 6½ – 5½ to retain the title.

World Chess Championship 2012 *

The World Chess Championship 2012 will be held between the current world champion Viswanathan Anand and the the winner of the Candidates Match Boris Gelfand from Israel. This event is  scheduled to be held in Moscow, Russia under the auspices of FIDE from May 10 to Jun 1, 2012.
