FIDE World Championship  •  Reykjavik, Iceland
July 11, 1972 / Game 1

Chess World Champion Boris Spassky, wins the first match game after a series of incidents caused by Fischer which arrived late to the Iceland Capital on July 11.  The game is started with a Queen's Gambit that later drifts to the Nimzoindian Defense. However, instead of settling for a draw on move 20 and again on move 29 (K-B2), Fischer pushes his luck with a questionable sacrifice on move 29... BxRP in exchange for two Pawns.
