Moscow, 1969

In this final game of the USSR Championship, a special stake was riding on the outcome for Mark Taimanov. A clear victory would gain him a spot in the Interzonals, leading to the World Championship. In the middle game he goes all out for a quick kill, catching the white King in the center. It turns out that the victory isn't there, but in a flurry of time-trouble complications, he winds up a piece down but six Pawns up! One of the most exciting games on record.
